Continuing Professional Development
Drawing on over 20 years' experience in the industry, Deaf Alerter is providing its well-established, CPD accredited seminar Fire Evacuation Communication for Disabled People: The law and the solutions. This seminar offers best practice guidance on the various legislative duties to provide fire safety and evacuation for disabled people. Building operators face significant difficulties communicating with Deaf and hard of hearing people when informing them of an evacuation and when physically disabled people have been placed in a temporary safe haven or refuge area. The seminar identifies the difficulties, legal responsibilities and the technical solutions that are available to ensure a building provides an equally safe environment for both non-disabled and disabled people. There were huge legislative changes which came into force in 2006; the Regulatory Reform Order and Disability Equality Duty part of the 2005 DDA amendments. In 2008, BS5839-1 was amended and BS9999 was introduced, superseding the entire BS 5588 series (with the exception of BS 5588-1), which will be withdrawn on 6 April 2009. You need to know how they impact on you and what you need to do to comply.
The seminar is suitable for access consultants, architects, fire officers, health and safety professionals, building managers and anyone involved in fire safety provision and specification. Feedback from the seminar has been extremely positive and over 7,000 industry professionals have attended and received the accredited certificate. It is an excellent way to gain an understanding of the barriers faced by disabled people and the various solutions available to provide equal access to emergency evacuation warnings to aid egress.
With the overwhelming response to the seminar Deaf Alerter plc will once again be joining the Construction CPD Service on their 2010 National Road Seminar Tour. Attendance is free; please see below for venues and dates:
