United Kingdom
Every site in the UK which has a Deaf Alerter transmitter installed must have a valid and current licence issued by Ofcom, the Government's Office of Communications. When we install a Deaf Alerter transmitter we will complete all the necessary paperwork to apply for the licence, although the licence must be paid for and held by our customer, the owner or operator of the site. The cost of the licence is £50 for three years. Where a customer has a Deaf Alerter Support Agreement we will handle all the renewal procedures on behalf of our customer (and the cost of renewal is incorporated into the maintenance cost).
To find out more about the licence requirements and general information about Ofcom please visit www.ofcom.org.uk. Reference the section on RA242 onsite PBR.
Republic of Ireland
In the Republic of Ireland the Government has allocated the same frequency for Deaf Alerter operation as we use in the UK. This means that a Deaf person visiting the Republic of Ireland from the UK or Northern Ireland, or visiting the UK or Northern Ireland from the Republic of Ireland, can use their Deaf Alerter in any building displaying the Deaf Alerter sign. There is no licence fee paid by the customer (building operator or owner), although our transmitter equipment is clearly marked with the registration number issued by the Irish Government to show that it complies with agreed power levels and frequency.
Other Countries
When Deaf Alerter is supplied to other countries we ensure that the equipment complies with the local equipment regulations (frequency and power levels). The local Deaf Alerter plc partner will ensure that the customer is aware of any licence regulating and assist in relevant paperwork for obtaining the licence.
